Youth Baseball: Bluffton American, Hilton Head Advance To Minors Championship Game

Bluffton American is within one victory of claiming the Dixie Youth Baseball Minors (9-10) District 8 title.

Bluffton American rallied from an early three-run deficit for a 10-4 win over Colleton County on Saturday in Walterboro.

The Bluffton all-stars need one win over Hilton Head on Sunday to advance to the state tournament July 14-18 in Moncks Corner. Hilton Head, which defeated Bluffton National 6-2 in an elimination game Saturday, will have to beat Bluffton American twice to claim the district title and a berth in the state tournament.

Bluffton American trailed Colleton County 3-0 after three innings before scoring four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to break it open. Ryan Goll was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, and Bradley Robbins was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead Bluffton. Max Van Esselstyn added two RBIs. Robbins was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs (one earned) and five hits over four innings with five strikeouts.

Hilton Head earned a rematch with Bluffton American by beating Bluffton National for a second time. Bluffton pulled within 3-2 with two runs in the fifth, but Hilton Head scored three times in the sixth to regain control. J.P. Pirkey had a double and two RBIs, Tysen Brasington was 2-for-2 and scored twice, and Jackson Reilley and Tyler Britschge had RBIs for Hilton Head. Calvin Middleton struck out four over four hitless innings for the win. Trent Miller had a double and two RBIs to lead Bluffton National at the plate.

Bluffton American and Hilton Head play for the championship at 6 p.m. Sunday with a second game to follow if necessary.
