Youth Baseball: Hilton Head, Bluffton American Stay Undefeated In Minors Tourney

Hilton Head and Bluffton American won Thursday to remain in the championship bracket of the Dixie Youth Baseball Minors (9-10) District 8 Tournament in Walterboro.

Hilton Head blanked Bluffton National 6-0, while Bluffton American shut out Beaufort 13-0 to set up a meeting of the two remaining undefeated teams in the tournament at 8 p.m. Friday.

Three Hilton Head pitchers combined on a one-hitter with starter Calvin Middleton striking out eight and walking four over four innings for the win. Teaghan Mitchell was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and JP Pirkey drove in a run.

Ryan Goll struck out seven and allowed two hits in Bluffton American’s shutout. Goll and Max Van Esselstyn each went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Archer Dewig and Roman Colella each added two hits and an RBI.

Beaufort will take on Bluffton National and Ridgeland will face Colleton County in elimination games at 6 p.m. Friday.

The tournament continues through Sunday with the champion advancing to the state tournament July 14-18 in Moncks Corner.
