HS Softball: Dolphins Move On To Lower State Finals

Battery Creek won a second straight elimination game Wednesday, beating Gilbert 6-1 on the road to advance to the Class 3A Lower State championship.

The Dolphins avenged a loss to the Indians in the first round of the tournament and advanced to take on Hanahan in the championship round Friday. Battery Creek (25-7) will have to beat the Hawks twice to advance to the state championship series.

Gilbert struck first with a run in the first inning, but Emily Crosby homered leading off the third to tie it and the Dolphins added two more runs in the inning on Michaux Gee’s sacrifice fly and Journeigh Doray’s swipe of home on a double-steal.

Alexis Ortiz shut down the Indians the rest of the way, and the Dolphins added three insurance runs in the seventh on Julianna Greer’s two-run single and Margaret Schubert’s RBI single.

Ortiz allowed one run and four hits in a complete game with five strikeouts and one walk.
