HS Softball: Dolphins Edge Aynor To Stay Alive

Battery Creek stayed alive in the Class 3A Lower State tournament with a 2-1 win over visiting Aynor on Monday.

Emily Crosby was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded in the seventh inning, forcing home the winning run for the Dolphins.

Battery Creek took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, when Aynor misplayed Mackenzie Young’s grounder to allow a run to score.

The Yellowjackets tied it with a solo homer in the sixth, but the Dolphins loaded the bases with one out in the seventh and brought home the winning run on Crosby’s two-out hit by pitch.

Alexis Ortiz struck out seven and allowed one run and five hits over seven innings to earn the win.

The Dolphins (24-7) will travel to Gilbert for an elimination game Wednesday. The Indians beat Battery Creek 6-5 in a first-round game Saturday.
