Matt Oliver and Davis Phillips haven’t been called upon to play many doubles matches for Hilton Head High this season, because the Seahawks usually have the match in the bag without needing to go to No. 1 doubles.
They were up to the task when needed.
Oliver and Phillips teamed up for a doubles victory that clinched the Seahawks’ 4-3 win over previously-undefeated Myrtle Beach in the third round of the Class 4A playoffs on Thursday.
Hilton Head High won three of the five singles matches – including wins by Oliver and Phillips on the first two courts – but Myrtle Beach won at No. 2 doubles to force the deciding match.
The Seahawks (17-2) will travel to A.C. Flora at 4:30 p.m. Monday for the Lower State Championship.
