Connor Handy’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave Hilton Head Christian Academy a series-clinching 6-5 win over visiting Calhoun Academy on Thursday.
Handy’s single to left field scored Michael Graupner with the winning run as the Eagles won the best-of-3 series and advanced to the second round of the SCISA Class 2A playoffs.
The Eagles took a 4-1 lead with four runs in the third inning, taking advantage of four walks and two Cavaliers errors.
Handy’s RBI single made it 5-1 in the fifth before Calhoun rallied in the top of the sixth. B Felder cleared the bases with a three-run double and scored the tying run on B Edmunds’ grounder.
J.D. Monts came on in relief of Reese Malon to get the Eagles out of a jam in the top of the seventh, and Graupner led off the bottom of the frame with a single before coming around to score on Handy’s game-winning hit.
The Eagles (19-3) will travel to Pee Dee Academy for the opener of a best-of-3 semifinal series Monday.
