May River midfielder Mikey Chappelear and Sharks coach Misael Garzon took the top honors from the All-Region 8-3A boys soccer awards released Tuesday.
Chappelear was named the Player of the Year and named to the all-region team along with four teammates, while Garzon was named the region Coach of the Year after leading the Sharks to the region title in just the second season for the program.
Bluffton landed four players on the all-region squad, while Wade Hampton had three selections, Battery Creek had two, and Ridgeland-Hardeeville had one.
Chappelear led the Sharks with 29 goals and added eight assists and scored multiple goals nine times. He’s joined on the all-region team by teammates Tony Rodriguez (Sr., GK), Nick Lewis (Jr., D), Joel Fleek (Soph., F) and AJ Kestler (Soph., D).
Bluffton’s Alexis Jimenez (Sr., MF), Evan Ventrice (Sr., D), Hector Zelaya (Sr., GK), and Hernan Gomez (Jr., F) made the team along with Battery Creek’s Alex Cruz (Soph., MF) and Ty’Zah White (Fr., MF) and Ridgeland-Hardeeville’s Fernando Trujillo (Jr., MF).
