HS Softball: Dolphins Reach Palmetto Invitational Final, Rebels Go 2-2

Battery Creek reached the championship game at the Palmetto Invitational over the weekend, winning three straight games before losing twice to Fort Dorchester.

The Dolphins beat Stratford (7-3), River Bluff (11-9), and Cane Bay (1-0) on Friday to advance to the championship against Fort Dorchester. The Patriots beat the Dolphins 6-3 and 5-4 to claim the title.

Alexis Ortiz went 2-2 on the mound, allowing 14 runs – only two earned – in 27 innings with 27 strikeouts. Michaux Gee also picked up a win.

Emily Crosby led the Dolphins at the plate, going 9-for-17 with a double, a homer, and five RBIs. Julianna Greer was 6-for-15 with a double, a triple, and four RBIs, and Kelsey Hill and Margaret Schubert each went 6-for-12 with three RBIs.

Thomas Heyward also had a strong showing, going 2-2 against tough competition. The Rebels lost to Fort Dorchester (4-1) and defeated Stratford (4-1) and Wando (9-2) in pool play before losing to Cane Bay (3-0) on Saturday.

Cheyenne Strong struck out 15 in the win over Stratford and was named to the all-tournament team along with Ivy Bryan.

The Dolphins (17-5) host Bluffton in the first game of a three-game region series at 7 p.m. Monday. The Rebels (7-7) play at Berkeley at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
