Shaley Gooding hit a walk-off home run to lift Beaufort High to a 13-12 win over May River on Thursday.
Jordan Kovacs and Gabby Ximenez each had RBI doubles in the top of the seventh to give the Sharks a 12-11 lead, but Kidron Martin’s sacrifice fly scored Lillian Sumner to tie it and Gooding launched the game-winning blast to center.
Essence Champion was 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs, and three RBIs, Emily Cook was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Martin was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs to lead the Eagles at the plate.
Olivia Turpin went 5-for-5 with a homer, three runs, and five RBIs to lead May River’s offense. Kylee Gleason (4-for-4, 3 runs), Giovana Rodriguez (3-for-5, run, 2 RBIs), Haley Welsch (3-for-5, 2 runs), and Ximenez (2-for-5, 2 RBIs) also had big games at the plate for the Sharks.
Beaufort (6-7) is off until April 17, when the Eagles host Cane Bay for a region game at 7 p.m. May River (10-9) opens a three-game region series against Wade Hampton with a home game at 5 p.m. on April 16.
