The May River girls continued their breakthrough second season with a 12-7 win at Beaufort High on Tuesday.
Yael Echeverria and Aubrey Gaglia each scored three goals, Courtney Alewine added two goals and an assist, and Mary-Miller Kaelin scored two goals to lead the Sharks’ attack. Hannah Peltz made 15 saves in goal.
The Sharks went winless in their inaugural season and started 0-3 this season before reeling off three straight victories in early March. They snapped a five-game skid against tough competition with Tuesday’s victory.
“Girls who were learning to catch last year are showing how much can be gained in a year of practice and commitment,” Sharks coach Caitlin Szymanski said. “Nearly half the team has scored goals this season, proving the talent is wide-spread. Our defense has come a long way as well, protecting the goal and connecting with the midfield.”
May River (4-8) wraps up the regular season Thursday, hosting Nation Ford at 6:30 p.m.
