HS Baseball: Big First Inning Buoys Beaufort High

Beaufort High baseball scored five runs in the first inning and never surrendered the lead in a 12-5 home win over Berkeley on Thursday.

The Stags rallied back within one run before the Eagles broke it open again with a four-run fourth inning and the pitching staff shut down Berkeley the rest of the way.

Paul Winland earned the win, allowing five runs (one earned) and six hits over five innings with four strikeouts. Brendan Bowersox pitched two scoreless innings to close it out for the Eagles.

Ethan Graham was 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, Winland had a double and three RBIs, and Jacob Anderson, Wade Olivarri, and Bowersox each had two hits for the Eagles.

Beaufort (10-2, 6-1) faces St. Rita (Ill.) on Monday in the HITT Tournament in Charleston.
