May River softball couldn’t come up with the clutch hits needed to stay in the game Friday, falling 8-1 to visiting Byrnes.
The Sharks fell behind 4-0 early and had a tough time hitting with runners on base, stranding 10 runners on the night. The Rebels broke it open with four unearned runs in the sixth inning.
Olivia Turpin had two hits and Alisa Depew drove in the only run for May River. Gabby Ximenez was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) and seven hits over four innings.
The Sharks (1-2) play a three-game series against rival Bluffton next week beginning with game 1 at 6:30 p.m. Monday at May River.
