USCB Softball Splits Pair Of Shutouts With #23 Rio Grande

The USCB softball team split a doubleheader with No. 23 Rio Grande (Ohio) on Friday.

The Sand Sharks had their six-game win streak snapped in a 2-0 loss in the first game, but they bounced back to win the second game 3-0 behind a six-hit shutout from freshman Maria Molloseau.

The opener was scoreless until the seventh, when the Red Storm pushed across two unearned runs thanks to a two-out error, spoiling a strong outing from Abby Pac. Kayla Boyle had three of USCB’s five hits in the game.

Molloseau was the star in the finale, striking out four in the shutout and driving in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Canyon Crosby and Kylie Kelly each had two hits for the Sand Sharks.

USCB (9-3) hosts Pikeville (Ky.) for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Sand Sharks will celebrate Youth Day with all children under 14 admitted free and drawings for a chance to throw out the first pitch and sing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame,” as well as a dizzy bat race between games.
