Sand Shark Softball Sweeps Columbia College

The USCB softball opened its season with a dominant performance in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Columbia College on Saturday.

The Sand Sharks hammered the Koalas 13-0 in five innings in the opener and won 8-1 in the finale.

In game 1, Kayla Boyle was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, Natassja Hatcher went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, and Canyon Crosby drove in two runs and scored twice to lead the offensive outburst.

Abby Pac allowed five hits over four scoreless innings for the win, and Maria Molloseau pitched the fifth to finish the shutout.

Hatcher had another big game at the plate in game 2, going 2-for-3 with another two-run blast and four RBIs. Rachel Frankhouser was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Crosby was 2-for-3 with an RBI and earned the win in the circle with four innings of one-run ball.

The Sand Sharks are back in action Sunday against Montreat (N.C.). First pitch has tentatively been moved up to 11 a.m. because of rain the forecast.
