If you’re wondering what Beaufort Academy fans have been up to for the past 24 hours, I can provide some insight.
The Eagles swept this week’s RBC Heritage High School Basketball Player of the Week honors, with Karolina Struharova and Dawson Coleman taking home the theoretical hardware.
Struharova averaged 13 points in three games – two wins –
and garnered 36.9 percent of the vote to edge Hilton Head High’s Miley Ray (28.7 percent) by a mere 29 votes.
Coleman picked up 37.8 percent of the vote after an incredible week in which he averaged 26 points and posted three double-doubles while leading the Eagles to a 2-1 record. Coleman narrowly beat out Hilton Head High’s Trevor Wright (33.3 percent) by 17 votes.
For the record, my votes went to Hilton Head Christian’s Jasmine Campbell (17.0 ppg in a 3-0 week) and Ridgeland-Hardeeville’s Rashamel Butler (15.7 ppg, 3.0 apg, 5.7 spg in a 3-0 week), but this was the strongest crop of nominees yet and the winners certainly are deserving.
