Hilton Head High’s boys pushed defending Region 8-4A champion Berkeley to overtime before suffering a tough 59-58 loss Wednesday.
The Seahawks led by six at halftime before the Stags took control with a dominant third quarter, but Hilton Head High rallied to tie it and had a chance to win in regulation before Trevor Wright’s deep 3-pointer bounced off the front of the rim.
Hilton Head High led 58-57 late, but Trevor Smalls came up with a steal and earned a trip to the foul line, where he knocked down two shots to give the Stags the lead. Davis Molloy’s last-second 3-pointer missed off the back of the rim, allowing Berkeley to escape.
Wright and Chris Washington scored 20 points each and Molloy added 13 for the Seahawks. Ephram Butler scored 26, and Smalls and Ishawn White each contributed 13 for the Stags.
The Seahawks (6-7, 0-1) travel to Cane Bay to continue region play on Friday.
