Hilton Head Prep’s boys held off a strong challenge from John Paul II to claim a 69-58 road win in region play Tuesday.
The game was close throughout and the Golden Warriors led by one at halftime before the Dolphins gained some separation in the fourth quarter and converted at the foul line down the stretch to seal it.
Haddith Stewart collected 23 points and nine rebounds, Tyrone Calloway scored 21 points, and Avern Montaque added 10 points and nine boards to lead the Dolphins.
Rashad Battiste had 25 points and 14 rebounds to help keep JPII in the game, and Nyleem Wright contributed seven points, four steals, four assists, and four boards for the Golden Warriors, who were without leading scorer Amere Cherry (illness).
Both teams are back in action Friday, as HHP (7-1, 1-0) travels to Bethesda and JPII (4-8, 1-1) hosts Hilton Head Christian.
