HSFB: Sharks Come Close In Upset Bid At Timberland

May River pushed another top team to the brink, but the Sharks’ season ended with a 12-10 loss at Timberland on Friday in the first round of the SCHSL Class 3A playoffs.

The Sharks led 10-6 at halftime, but the top-seeded Wolves took their first lead of the night with 3:34 left in the third quarter and shut out May River in the second half.

A Terry Fields interception set up Cam Adams’ 6-yard touchdown run for an early 7-0 lead for the Sharks, and a Timberland fumble set up Daniel Matute’s field goal for a 10-6 halftime advantage.

Quarterback JaQuez Mitchell gave the Wolves the lead with a 6-yard TD run, and Davion Sumpter’s interception at midfield halted a late May River drive to preserve the win.

The Sharks finished 2-8 with seven of their losses coming by 11 points or fewer, including three by just one or two points.
