HSFB: Rebels Rally Late To Avoid Upset

Top-seeded Thomas Heyward survived a scare before rallying for a 20-14 overtime win over Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach on Friday in the first round of the SCISA Class 1A playoffs.

The Rebels trailed 14-7 late in regulation when Bobby Payne recovered a River Pender fumble in the end zone for a touchdown that pulled THA even at 14 with 3:15 to play.

The Saints had a chance to win it in regulation but missed a last-second field goal to send it to overtime. The Rebels got another stop in the first overtime period, and Logan Thomas won it with a 5-yard touchdown run. Thomas threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Steedley in the first half.

The Rebels (9-2) will host Pee Dee Academy, which beat Colleton Prep 49-20, in the semifinals next week.
