The title of state champions has a nice ring for the Beaufort Academy volleyball team.
The Eagles finished a dominant run through the SCISA Class 1A state tournament Monday, beating Mead Hall 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-19, 25-10) for the first volleyball state title in school history.
BA dropped only one set across six matches in the tournament and finished the season with a 24-3 record.
In the championship game, the Eagles received a typically balanced effort. Courtney Kirberger was 19-for-19 serving with three aces, four kills, and 16 assists; Allison Suber had a team-high 10 kills, two blocks, and seven digs; Alyssa Patrick led the team with 19 digs and added five kills; and Emma Hincher was 17-for-18 serving with four aces and seven kills.
