HS Golf: Burnett Shoots 63 As Bobcats, Sharks Advance To State

Bluffton High School’s Sophia Burnett shot 9-under-par 63 to earn medalist honors and lead the Bobcats to a runner-up finish in the Class 3A-2A-1A Lower State girls golf meet Monday at Diamondback Golf Club in Loris.

Bluffton shot 297 as a team, finishing four shots behind champion Oceanside Collegiate. May River High School finished third at 331, also qualifying for next week’s state championship.

Burnett shot 30 on the front nine and 33 on the back to win by five shots over Oceanside’s Gaby Martinez. Camilla Burnett (74), Kaylia McIntyre (77), Lexi Adams (83) and Brilee Larson (92) rounded out Bluffton’s lineup.

Kathryn Thorne (77) and Molly Minasi (78) led the Sharks with Sydney Bowes (86), Hannah Harris (90) and Maddy Archer (121) rounding out the lineup.

The Class 3A-2A-1A State Championship is scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday at River Falls Golf Club in Duncan.
