Piña’s Hat Trick Propels Sand Shark Soccer To Homecoming Win

All-time leading scorer Hayley Piña scored three goals and assisted on two more to lead the USCB women’s soccer team to a 9-1 homecoming win over Ave Maria on Saturday.

MJ Orduña scored two goals and assisted on another, and Anna Gignilliat and Sarah Withers each added a goal and an assist for the Sand Sharks. Hannah Salus and Rileigh Olsen each scored a goal.

USCB led 6-0 at halftime as Piña registered her second career hat trick just over 18 minutes into the match and Orduña netted both of her goals in the first half.

Moa Johansson allowed one goal and made four saves to earn the win.

The Sand Sharks (6-6, 3-4 Sun Conference) are back in action Wednesday at Webber International in a key match for both teams’ hopes of earning a spot in the Sun Conference Tournament.
