The John Paul II volleyball team overcame a pair of key injuries to claim a five-set win over Hilton Head Prep on Thursday.
The Golden Warriors won 3-2 (25-17, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-5) despite losing their top two kills leaders – Marissa Majorkiewicz and Abigail Barker – during the match. Majorkiewicz was injured early in the second set and Barker left in the fourth set, but Jasmine Hamilton, Mary Foster Gaillard and Darby O’Donnell powered the short-handed Golden Warriors in the fifth set.
Hamilton led JP2 with 10 kills, while O’Donnell collected 28 assists and 16 digs. Barker had six kills and 21 digs prior to her injury, and Gaillard added 17 digs.
The match marked JP2’s annual Dig Pink Night with proceeds from admissions, concessions, donations, and pledges going to the Side Out Foundation for breast cancer research.
JP2 plays at Colleton Prep on Tuesday, while Hilton Head Prep hosts Thomas Heyward on Thursday.
