John Paul II made a furious comeback before falling short in a 50-27 loss at Dorchester Academy on Saturday.
Zack Doe rushed for 141 yards and two toucdhowns, Melik Frost added a rushing touchdown, and Nyleem Wright threw a touchdown pass to Amere Cherry for the Golden Wariors.
Dorchester Academy scored on its first two possessions sandwiched around a successful onside kick for a quick 16-0 lead and was up 30-7 with 5:45 left in the first half. JP2 closed within 30-21 at halftime, and Frost’s touchdown run in the third quarter made it 30-27.
The Raiders broke their scoring drought early in the fourth quarter and converted two late interceptions into touchdowns to pull away.
JP2 (3-2, 1-1 region) plays at Thomas Heyward on Friday.
