HS Volleyball: HHCA Sweeps Opener, Awaits Word On Star’s Ankle Injury

The Hilton Head Christian Academy volleyball team swept to a season-opening victory Tuesday but also suffered a scare with an injury to standout Sydney DeSimone.

The Eagles swept Habersham 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-20), closing out the third set after DeSimone suffered an ankle injury. Coach Steve DeSimone said the severity of the injury has not yet been determined.

Sydney DeSimone recorded nine kills, one block, 23 digs, and two aces before the injury, and eighth-grader Ady O’Grady stepped up after DeSimone’s exit and recorded five kills in her varsity debut.

Brielle McCarthy racked up 26 assists, while Lauryn Qualls had three kills, six aces, and 12 digs. Olivia Reichenbach finished with seven kills and a block, and Jane Bender collected 14 digs and two aces.

The Eagles are back in action Wednesday, traveling to Beaufort High School for a tri-match with Beaufort and Fort Dorchester.
