Beaufort High used a dominant defensive effort in the second half to rally from a 10-0 deficit and beat Wando in the season-opener for the second straight year.
Kyleik Middleton rushed for 120 yards on 20 carries and scored the go-ahead touchdown, while Logan Adkins added 95 yards on 15 carries and quarterback Jeffrey Smyth rushed for 79 yards on 17 carries and threw a touchdown pass for the Eagles (1-0).
A 45-yard field goal from Andrew Weil and a 51-yard touchdown strike from Cale Lewis to Conner McCarthy gave the Warriors a 10-0 lead midway through the second quarter. The Eagles got on the board before halftime on Smyth’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Reed Reichel, and Weil missed a 37-yard field goal try just before the half.
Beaufort High put together a long drive capped by Middleton’s 3-yard touchdown run with 7:56 left in the game, putting the Eagles ahead 14-10. The Warriors got the ball back with 2:31 left and drove near midfield before a sack and fumble sealed the win for the Eagles.
