The Bluffton Angels All-Stars didn’t expect to need a third game to clinch their spot in the state tournament next month in Dillon.
After cruising to a 15-2 win in the opener of their best-of-3 series against Colleton County on Friday, the team that calls itself the Bluffton Beasts were on the wrong end of an 11-7 loss in the second game.
They left no doubt in the rubber match. Bluffton scored eight runs in the first inning and routed Colleton County 18-3 in a game shortened by the mercy rule, as Addison Roppelt struck out six over three innings and Reagan Kelly hit a two-run homer.
The team consists of Allie Belcher, Addison Roppelt, Faith Schoch, Grace Murdaugh, Anna Andreoletti, Kayden Smith, Maison Zeroll, Jayden Lopko, Shaina Lugo, Reagan Kelly, Brooke Wilfong, and Bethany Carlson. John Roppelt is the head coach with assistants Jay Andreoletti and Ricky Lugo.
The state tournament begins July 8 in Dillon.
