Hilton Head Island native Jack Felix claimed the overall title at the San Diego International Triathlon on Sunday, earning a $1,250 payday in the process.
Felix, 23, is a professional triathlete on the USA Triathlon development team and is based in the San Diego area, so the race was his final tune-up event leading up to the Des Moines CAMTRI race next month in Iowa.
The former Hilton Head Island High School swimming, cross country, and track & field standout completed the race in 1:30:32, defeating runner-up Alexander Romanenko by 45 seconds.
Felix was fifth coming out of the water after the 1,000-meter swim and clocked the third-fastest time on the 30K bike before easily outpacing the field on the 10K run with a time of 34:10 and making up the two-minute gap with plenty of time to spare.
