Beaufort junior golfer Jerry Bruns fired a 2-under-par 69 to grab the early lead in the boys 11-12 age group at the S.C. Junior Golf Association’s Grant Bennett Florence Junior Championship.
Bruns has a one-shot advantage over Columbia’s Adam Hunt entering Friday’s final round.
In the boys 15-18 division, Drew Weary shot even-par 71 and is tied for seventh, five shots off the lead, while fellow Bluffton residents Brandon McBride (73) and Connor Moore (74) are tied for 16th and 21st.
In the boys 13-14 division, Hilton Head Island’s Max Green shot 8-over 79 and is tied for 13th, nine off the lead.
The event is the longest-running junior golf tournament in South Carolina and includes an impressive list of past champions, including reigning RBC Heritage champ Wesley Bryan.
