When it was announced that the RBC Heritage presented by Boeing would remain one of eight limited-field events on this year’s PGA Tour schedule, it ensured one thing: The best golfers in the world will once again be at Harbour Town Golf Links the week after they tee it up at The Masters.
And the high-profile commitments are already rolling in, with the world’s top-ranked golfer — defending champion Scottie Scheffler — at the top of the list.
In order to become the first back-to-back champion at Harbour Town since Boo Weekley in 2007 and 2008, Scheffler will have to defend his crown against some of the world’s top contenders, including fellow early commitments Justin Thomas (No. 9 in OWGR), Patrick Cantlay (No. 15), Akshay Bhatia (No. 21), Matt Fitzpatrick (No. 69), and Max Homa (No. 76).
Scheffler is number one on the Official World Golf Ranking and has earned 13 PGA Tour wins since the beginning of the 2021 season, including back-to-back wins at last year’s Masters and Heritage, making him the first player to achieve that feat since Bernhard Langer did it in 1985.
Thomas, currently ninth in the Official World Golf Ranking, has carded three top-10 finishes this season and will be making his seventh start at the RBC Heritage.
Fitzpatrick earned his second PGA Tour victory at the 2023 RBC Heritage by defeating defending champ Jordan Spieth in a playoff. The Englishman earned his first victory as a PGA Tour member at the 2022 U.S. Open and has also earned seven international victories.
Bhatia was the first high schooler to represent the United States in the Walker Cup and made his first professional start at age 17 at the 2019 Valspar Championship before turning pro later that year. He has carded two wins since joining the PGA Tour in 2023.
Cantlay is currently 15th on the Official World Golf Rankings and is always one to watch at the RBC Heritage. He has carded six top-10 finishes in seven starts at Harbour Town and has earned eight wins on the PGA Tour, including four in 2021 en route to the FedExCup title and the Jack Nicklaus Award as PGA Tour Player of the Year.
Homa was a member of the 2023 Ryder Cup and has won six times on the PGA Tour since joining in 2014. He will be making his fourth start at Harbour Town.
PGA Tour professionals have until Monday, April 14, to commit to compete. The complete field will be posted on RBCHeritage.com at that time.
