GOLF: Fox, Sand Sharks keep hardware at home

Tyler Fox dominated with a 4-under 212, and the USCB Sand Sharks captured the team and individual titles Tuesday at the Monument Golf Oldfield Classic in Okatie.

Carrying a nine-stroke lead into Tuesday’s final round, the Sand Sharks (875) held off Dalton State (881) to claim their first tournament championship since the 2019-20 season while Fox notched his first collegiate win.

The senior began his week on a blistering pace Monday, carding a 5-under 139 in the opening two rounds before finishing off the victory Tuesday with a solid 1-over 73. He was dialed in down the stretch, making three birdies on the back nine to top Point University’s Cole Stevens and Dalton State’s Matthew Cleary by six strokes.

Jacob Thomas earned his third top-five finish of the season, placing in a tie for fourth with a 3-over 219. Sophomore Jonas Demant (4-over 220) joined Fox and Thomas in the top 10 with a tie for sixth, and Dawson Peters (8-over 224) wrapped up the event in a tie for 15th. Caelan Sammy (12-over 228) excelled while playing as an individual, and Fabian Fallenius (16-over 232) rounded out the victorious five-man Sand Shark squad in a tie for 31st.

USCB will look to carry the momentum over to the Roadrunner Classic hosted by Dalton State on Monday and Tuesday in The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga.
