Hilton Head Prep baseball was able to shake off a rough first inning and take advantage of Thomas Heyward’s bullpen to rally for a 13-4 home win over the Rebels on Tuesday.
THA pounced for three runs in the first, starting the scoring with an RBI double from Walker Taylor, who later scored on a passed ball before Nick Wise singled to drive in another. The Dolphins got one back in the second when THA starter Zane Wilson lost command and issued three straight one-out walks after a leadoff single from Phoenix Betancourt.
Nick Wise relieved Wilson in the third, but he did not have the stuff he displayed in a one-hit shutout against John Paul II last week, and the Dolphins piled up seven runs in the inning with the aid of four hits, four walks, a hit by pitch, and an error. HHP tacked on five more over the next two innings to put it out of reach.
Meanwhile, Steele Burd shut down the Rebels’ bats with five innings of stellar relief, striking out 10 and allowing one unearned run on four hits and four walks. Burd also had a pair of hits and a walk with an RBI and two runs, and Betancourt added two hits, and RBI, and three runs.
Brody Crider and Walker Taylor each had two hits, and RBI, and a run for the Rebels.
