HSBBB: Dolphins’ season ends with semifinals loss to First Baptist

Hilton Head Prep boys basketball withstood the initial landfall, but the Hurricanes picked up intensity in the second and third quarters as First Baptist stormed to a 59-37 victory over the Dolphins on Friday in the SCISA 3A semifinals.

After a 20-point loss to the Hurricanes on Feb. 12 in Charleston, the Dolphins were eager for a rematch, and they came out swinging. HHP took a 17-15 lead after one quarter, but the Hurricanes started humming in the second quarter and surged to a 10-point halftime advantage.

First Baptist cranked up the defensive intensity another notch in the third quarter, holding the Dolphins to four points and bumping the lead to 20 before coasting into the finals.

Sean Cusano led HHP with 11 points, five rebounds, and two blocks to cap off a stellar junior season, while Kane Eanes added 10 points, four rebounds, and three assists, and JJ Hayes ended his high school career with four points and eight rebounds.

HHP finishes the season with a 22-4 record. First Baptist fell to Augusta Christian 58-52 in the championship game Saturday.
