HSWR: Dolphins send six to state with two champs

Battery Creek wrestlers claimed a pair of individual titles among six state qualifiers at the Class 3A Lower State meet at Camden on Friday.

Reily Doray (113) and Sam Degroat (120) claimed Lower State titles for the Dolphins, while Elmer Linares (126) and Dre’Shaun Brown (182) earned runner-up finishes, and Sebastian Sanchez (145) and Hunter Smith (170) placed fourth to punch their tickets to state.

Doray knocked off Elijah Mayers of Gilbert in the finals, setting him up well to cap off his career as a state medalist, and Degroat will be in good position to get back to the finals and have a chance to add gold to his silver at 113 pounds last year after breezing through the Lower State bracket.

Linares made the finals before running into Bishop England’s Sam Cherichello, and Brown advanced to the title bout before falling to second-ranked Jackson Caulder of Gilbert. Sanchez and Smith both battled through the consolation bracket to earn their first trips to state.

The state meet is Friday and Saturday at the Anderson Civic Center.
