HSGBB: Dolphins blow out JPII in final playoff tuneup

Hilton Head Prep girls basketball is ready to put its best foot forward in the postseason after closing out the regular-season slate with a 54-21 home win over John Paul II on Tuesday.

Haylee Hopman led a balanced HHP effort on Senior Night, scoring 12 points, while Courtney Campbell, Emma Moore, and Avery Brothers added eight points each, and Katie Campbell contributed six rebounds and eight assists.

“The seniors were seniors and they played great,” HHP coach Phillip Hartman said. “Our press and designated break continue to get better. We are playing our best basketball.”

Maddie Heathcott, Gracie Henderson, and Savannah Trott each scored five points to lead JPII, which fell behind 18-6 after one quarter and was down by 24 at halftime.

“Not at all what we wanted tonight,” JPII coach Karen Floyd said. “We had a few bright moments, especially from our younger girls, but we were mostly outmatched by a seasoned and very disciplined Prep team.”

HHP (17-8) and JPII (7-11) now await their seedings in the SCISA playoff brackets to be released Wednesday.
