Beaufort Academy boys basketball closed out the regular season with a hard-fought 52-49 win over Bethesda Academy on Monday.
The Eagles had already locked up the top seed from the “flex” SCISA Region 4, but they passed another test in their final tuneup before the playoffs. After trailing by two through one quarter, BA buckled down in the second quarter and took a 25-24 lead into the break.
The Blazers surged back ahead by two going to the fourth, but BA was able to come up with a few big stops on defense and do just enough on the offensive end to escape with the victory.
Sully Gay scored 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Amarion Wilson added 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting with nine rebounds as BA controlled the paint. Point guards Braydon Dineen (9 points, 5 assists, 2 steals) and Zeke Gonzalez (8 points, 4 assists, 3 steals) both had productive nights for the Eagles.
Bethesda’s Caleb Dillon had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Jayden Newton added nine points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while BA limited leading scorer Josh Quarterman to nine points on 4-of-12 shooting with six rebounds and four assists.
BA (31-7) now awaits the release of the SCISA 2A playoff brackets on Wednesday.
