HSGBB: Dogged Dolphins grind down Golden Warriors

Hilton Head Prep girls basketball continued its strong play during a grueling week, hammering John Paul II 69-45 on the road Wednesday in the Dolphins’ third game in three days.

Courtney Campbell led a balanced HHP attack with 15 points and nine assists as the Dolphins put four players in double digits. Haylee Hopman added 14 points, Katie Campbell contributed 12, and Ella Clark chipped in 10 for the Dolphins.

“Tonight was a good team win. Everyone played and everyone contributed,” HHP coach Phillip Hartman said. “The team is really banged up from three straight games, we’re all looking forward to a full day of rest tomorrow.”

The Dolphins (16-6, 7-3) also get an unexpected day off Friday due to Colleton Prep forfeiting the contest before they travel to First Baptist for a non-region matchup Saturday.

The Golden Warriors (7-9, 5-5) are also looking forward to a day off after getting good production from Maddie Heathcott (15 points, six rebounds) and Brady Mahoney (12 points, six rebounds) but struggling to handle HHP’s pressure and crisp offensive execution.

“We were out matched tonight as Prep seemed to do everything right,” JPII coach Karen Floyd said. “They pressed extremely well, made great passes, and had no trouble finishing in the paint. Tomorrow will be all about fixing mistakes as we prepare for Beaufort Academy on Friday.”
