Beaufort Academy boys basketball pulled away after halftime for a 61-48 home win over St. John’s Christian Academy on Friday, pushing the Eagles’ win streak to four games.
The Cavaliers outshot BA 36.7 percent to 32.9 percent, but the Eagles forced 40 turnovers — including 24 steals — and turned them into 35 points. It was tight early, but BA opened up a 34-27 halftime lead and pulled away in the third, outscoring the Cavs 14-5 in the period before coasting to the finish.
Sully Gay put up another solid line with 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting with nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Freshman Amarion Wilson added 13 points and three boards in 14 minutes, and Zeke Gonzalez collected 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, and eight steals in a terrific effort at both ends of the floor.
Wallace Hester and Brock Ray each scored 12 points for the Cavaliers.
BA (15-3) plays Hanahan on Tuesday in the first round of the Cougar Classic in Walterboro.
