John Paul II’s girls made a spirited third-quarter comeback but couldn’t finish the job in a 51-40 loss at Cathedral Academy on Monday.

The Golden Warriors were down two after the first quarter, but they faltered at the offensive end in the second quarter to dig a 30-18 halftime deficit. JPII stormed back within five going to the fourth quarter but couldn’t sustain the momentum.
“We weren’t able to pull out the win, but the girls cleaned up their play from Friday night and played really well against a tough Cathedral Academy team,” JPII coach Karen Floyd said.
Brady Mahoney had 10 points, four rebounds, and four steals for the Golden Warriors, while Cayce Graves added eight points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals, and Caroline Gilmour contributed seven points and nine rebounds.
JPII (2-2) is off until Jan. 4, when the Golden Warriors open region play at home against Thomas Heyward.
