Even without one of their biggest offensive threats, May River’s boys were crisp Friday night, rolling to a 68-34 home win over Ridgeland-Hardeeville.
The Sharks were without multisport star Garvin Douglas, who played in the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl on Saturday in Myrtle Beach, but they still blitzed the Jaguars out of the gate, racing to a 20-8 lead after a quarter and extending it to 45-12 at halftime.

James Layman carried the scoring load with 21 points, hitting a trio of 3-pointers and all eight of his free throws, and he dished out five assists and grabbed three rebounds. Backcourt mate Chris Cash had an excellent game, as well, collecting nine points, seven boards, and six assists and using his quickness to ignite the Sharks’ transition game.
Gavin Blocker added 14 points and four steals, Josh Evander contributed six points and 11 rebounds, and freshman Tanner Macy had eight points and three steals for May River.
The Jaguars are rebuilding after having their 2020-21 season canceled due to COVID-19. RHHS travels to Savannah High on Tuesday.
