Hilton Head Prep girls basketball made a spirited fourth-quarter comeback but fell short in a 49-48 loss to Augusta Christian on Friday in the first round of the Baron Classic at Wilson Hall.

After trailing by 10 after one quarter and 26-19 at halftime, the Dolphins found themselves down eight going to the fourth quarter, but they surged ahead in the final period and led by two with 20 seconds remaining.
Freshman phenom Courtney Campbell missed the front end of a 1-and-1 to give the Lions a chance to tie or win, and Augusta Christian star Jessica Dowdy drove the length of the floor for a tying layup and converted a three-point play at the foul line to cap a 28-point night and give the Lions the win.
The Dolphins struggled to defend the Lions’ transition offense for much of the night but settled in defensively in the second half and nearly completed the comeback. Katie Campbell finished with 16 points, Emma Moore added 15, and Ella Clark had 10 for HHP.
The Dolphins (3-2) face host Wilson Hall at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
