HSBBB: Budda calls bank as Rebels stun Raiders at buzzer

The legend of Brandon Howard grew another notch Thursday night.

Howard banked in a game-winning 3-pointer on the run at the buzzer, and the Thomas Heyward Rebels snatched a 49-48 home victory Thursday against Dorchester Academy.

After the Raiders scored to take a two-point lead with just 2.9 seconds left, Howard took the inbounds pass and weaved his way to the top of the key. The senior tossed up a jumper from behind the arc as the buzzer sounded, and banked it off the rim for the game-winning bucket.

It was the capper to a memorable night for Howard, who finished the game with 22 points and a whopping seven steals. Preston Hamilton put up 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Jordan Mikell added eight points, three assists, and three steals.

Thomas Heyward (3-1) will take an exam break before resuming action on Dec. 28 at the Colleton Prep Holiday Tournament.
