HSGBB: Campbell, Dolphins’ D too much for Lions

Hilton Head Prep’s girls displayed a dominant defensive effort at home Tuesday, downing St. Andrew’s 51-17 behind 17 points from newcomer Katie Campbell.

The Dolphins put together a clinical first quarter, racing out to a 13-0 lead as a swarming press defense forced a flurry of Lion turnovers. It only took seconds for Katie Campbell to open the scoring, as Courtney Campbell hooked up with her sister right off the jump for a quick layup. Katie then found her stroke from deep, draining a three en route to an impressive nine first-quarter points.

The two siblings continued to push the pace and find quality looks near the hoop, sparking an 11-2 run capped off by a sensational step-back three from Katie for a 33-8 halftime lead. Emma Moore drained a tough jumper and added a layup to build the commanding advantage, and the Dolphins’ lockdown defense allowed just a pair of Lion field goals in the second half.

Courtney Campbell scored 14 points to complement her sister’s 17, Haylee Hopman added five points, and Moore, Ella Clark, and Annie Braun chipped in four points each while making a strong impact for an outstanding Dolphin defense.

Hilton Head Prep (3-1) takes on Augusta Christian on Friday to kick off a weekend tournament on the road.
