HSFB: Green, Porter shine as BA blasts Northwood

A two-week delay to make their home debut was worth the wait for the Beaufort Academy Eagles, who hit on all cylinders in their first action in three weeks, blasting visiting Northwood Academy 62-6 on Friday at Merritt Field.

A precautionary two-week quarantine didn’t seem to slow down the Eagles, who dominated the Chargers from the outset in every phase of the game. Devonte Green led an offensive clinic, rushing for 141 yards and three touchdowns on just six carries with TD runs of 23, 26, and 43 yards. Jaxen Porter also found the end zone three times, hauling in a 12-yard TD pass from Braydon Dineen and adding scores of 6 and 18 yards on the ground, the latter a determined effort in which he dragged several Chargers into the end zone.

Dineen didn’t have to go to the air often, attempting just four passes, but two of them wound up in the end zone. The junior quarterback also threw a 6-yard TD to Walker Day. Alex Williams also found the end zone, rushing for 40 yards and a TD on just three carries.

BA’s defense was just as impressive, shutting out the Chargers until the waning moments of the game and coming up with a pair of interceptions. Cody Dalrymple took a pick-6 50 yards for a score and added five tackles, and Jackson Davis also had a pick. Porter had a team-high six tackles, while Colten Collins and Ben Lubkin added five each.

The Eagles (2-0, 1-0) travel to Thomas Heyward on Friday.
