We had something resembling a full slate of high school football games around the Lowco in Week 3 with seven games on the local slate, and a couple of them went down to the wire.
Bluffton pulled off a remarkable comeback to stun Thomas Heyward in overtime, May River had a go-ahead field goal clank off the uprights in a tough loss to Wade Hampton, and Beaufort High, Whale Branch, and Hilton Head Prep all remained unbeaten.
We’ll have full recaps, photos, and video highlights later this weekend, but here’s your first glance at the Week 3 action in the Lowco First Down.
Bluffton 29, Thomas Heyward 22 (OT): Max Vonhohenstraeten threw three second-half touchdown passes and JaQuinn Williams scored in OT to lead the Bobcats back from a 22-0 deficit to stun the three-time defending SCISA 1A champion Rebels.
Hilton Head High 27, Lake Marion 6: Jaylen Sneed scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and the Seahawks’ defense scored a touchdown on a Chris Marable pick-6 and shut out the Gators until the fourth quarter to earn their first win of the season.
Wade Hampton 21, May River 20: Jamian Risher scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and iced the win with a long run before taking a knee at the 1 as the Sharks suffered their first loss of the season despite a pair of rushing TDs from Jaiden Jones.
Beaufort High 38, West Ashley 7: Tyler Haley tossed three TD passes to three different receivers, and the Eagles’ defense turned in another dominant performance highlighted by a James Dennison pick-6 as Beaufort improved to 4-0.

Andrew Jackson 34, Battery Creek 20: Will White threw a pair of TD passes to Dreshaun Brown, and Jeremiah Dilbert added a rushing touchdown, but it wasn’t enough for the Dolphins to keep pace with the Volunteers at home.
Hilton Head Prep 14, St. Andrew’s 0: Jake Rodney-Brown and Loncelle Daley scored first-half rushing touchdowns, and the Dolphins defense pitched its second straight shutout as HHP improved to 3-0.
