HSVB: Hopman hits two milestones as HHP wins 2 of 3

Hilton Head Prep volleyball standout Haylee Hopman hit two milestones in one match as the Dolphins won two of three games in a home quad match with Habersham School, Beaufort Academy, and Providence Christian Academy on Friday.

The Dolphins swept to 2-0 wins over Habersham (25-9, 52-18) and BA (25-21, 25-16) before falling in two sets to PCA (25-12, 26-24), but Hopman provided a bright spot in HHP’s lone defeat of the evening, surpassing 1,000 career digs and breaking the school record in the process.

Hopman had a big game against Habersham, racking up 14 digs to go with four kills, while Ashley Wilmot and Haley Majors contributed five kills each, Gabby Bettez had four aces and nine assists, and Ella Clark dished out 10 assists.

The Dolphins kept it rolling with a sweep of a solid BA squad, as Hopman tied for the team lead with six kills and picked up 13 digs, while Anna Scott matched her six kills to go with two blocks. Clark had 10 assists, and Bettez added nine for HHP.

HHP nearly fought back to force a third set against PCA behind five kills from Wilmot and big games from Gracie Palumbo-Alkire (four kills, three blocks) and Scott (four kills, two blocks). Hopman surpassed the two milestones with 11 digs, while Bettez had eight assists, and Clark added seven.

BA went 1-2 on the evening, beating Habersham 2-0 (25-17, 25-19) but falling in a three-set heartbreaker to PCA (25-11, 18-25, 15-11).

HHP (6-2) plays at Holy Trinity on Tuesday. BA (4-2) travels to Colleton Prep on Thursday.
