The Hilton Head Island All-Stars hit a bump in the road to Mississippi on Thursday morning but rebounded from their first loss of the postseason to beat Midland 12-2 and claim the 2021 Dixie Youth Baseball Ozone (12U) state title in Moncks Corner.
After breezing through their first four games by a combined score of 43-6, the Hilton Head squad was stymied at the plate in a 10-0 loss to Midland on Thursday, setting up a winner-take-all matchup with the state title and a trip to the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series on the line.

The bats came back to life for the finale, as Hilton Head plated four runs in the first inning and tacked on three in the third and five in the fourth to capture a run-rule victory and advance to the Dixie World Series next month in Laurel, Mississippi.
Alan Wolf led the offensive outburst in the deciding game, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI and scoring three times. Colin Lozan was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, Brandon Espinoza was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and scored three times, and Nicklaus Feltner added two hits and scored twice from the leadoff spot.
Phoenix Shapiro took care of the rest, limiting Midland to one earned run and three hits in a four-inning complete game while striking out six.
Hilton Head will represent South Carolina in the Dixie Youth Baseball Ozone World Series from Aug. 7-12 in Laurel, Mississippi. The team has an active fundraiser through GoFundMe to help families offset the travel costs associated with the World Series trip.
