Jonas Demant and Dawson Peters impressed in the first two rounds Monday, and USCB men’s golf shot a 20-over 596 to move into a two-way tie for third with 18 holes to go at the Sun Conference Championship at The Club at Savannah Quarters.
Peters kept his strong season going on the links, as The Sun Conference Golfer of the Year shot a scorching 3-under 69 in round one thanks to a highlight-reel eagle on the 531-yard 17th hole. The senior racked up five birdies in the opening round before carding a 4-over 76 in the second, sitting in a tie for sixth going into Tuesday.
Demant put together a solid first day, starting off with a 1-over 73 while picking up four birdies. The freshman matched his earlier total in the second round, playing consistent golf all the way through with 12 pars to put himself in a tie for 10th.
Jacob Thomas started with an opening-round 76 but did one stroke better in the second with a four-birdie outing. Skyler Sicoli finished the first day in a tie for 23rd, and Christoph Hagenauer wrapped up the first two rounds in 31st.
Keiser University (10-under 566) carried a narrow overnight lead into Tuesday’s final round, holding a one-stroke advantage over Coastal Georgia (9-under 567) after a standout 8-under performance from individual leader Lucas Cena.
