USC Salkehatchie women’s basketball roared into the championship game of the NJCAA Southeast A District tournament with a 91-73 home win over Bryant and Stratton on Thursday in Walterboro.
After grinding out two wins over the Bobcats by a combined 14 points during the regular season, the Indians left no doubt in the most important meeting.
The Indians were in control from the start, jumping out to a 20-14 lead after one quarter and extending the advantage to 42-26 by halftime before easing off the gas and outscoring the Bobcats by two in the second half.
Region 10 Player of the Year Mariah Igus had another monster game, pouring in 39 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists, and one block to lead four Indians in double digits. Antwanique Walley added 16 points, seven boards, and two steals, Andre’sia Alexander collected 12 points, nine assists, six rebounds, and three steals, and Kaia Simpson chipped in with 10 points and two steals.
The top-seeded Indians will host Catawba Valley in the championship game Saturday in Walterboro. USC Salk swept the Red Hawks in the regular season, winning 81-74 on March 16 and 82-67 on March 31.
