May River boys lacrosse ran into a buzzsaw Thursday, falling 11-4 to visiting Bishop England.
The Battling Bishops took control from the start with a stifling defensive effort, holding the Sharks off the board in the first quarter and taking a 6-1 lead into halftime.
May River had more success in the second half but couldn’t close the gap against a strong Bishop England team that dominated on the dot, winning 15-of-18 faceoffs.
Brooks van Esselstyn scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Sharks’ attack, and he scooped three groundballs. Rob Gadomski added a goal and an assist, and Hudson Kramer scored a goal for May River.
Jacob Bollinger gathered a team-high four groundballs and had two takeaways, and Corbin Wiltse made 12 saves for the Sharks.
May River (11-4) now awaits its playoff seeding and opponent.
